IGF-1 Critical for Good Sex

Rock-hard erections require blood flow control and normal levels of testosterone. A Baylor College of Medicine study found that growth hormone and IGF-1 were also important for firm erections and good sex. Many of growth hormone’s effects occur through the actions of IGF-1. The study found a moderately high relationship between IGF-1 levels in blood and erectile function. Researchers found no relationship between IGF-1 levels and testosterone, which suggests that growth hormone and IGF-1 play independent roles in sexual function. Growth hormone supplements might improve sexual performance in aging adults. (International Journal of Impotence Research, 23: 220-226)
